  • Please note exhibitor tags must be attached to all exhibits prior to submission. Tags will be available at Office Pro in New Hamburg shortly before the fair.
  • Although we do our best to care for your exhibits, the Wilmot Agricultural Society will not be responsible for the property of the exhibitors.

Welcome to the 2023 New Hamburg Fall Fair! The 2023 theme is “Farm Gate to Dinner Plate.” We are excited to see the many wonderful exhibits showcasing this theme, focusing on all the hard work that goes from the start of spring planting and raising livestock, to the finish on our dinner plates.

Thank you to all our volunteers who devote countless hours to helping make the Fair as successful as it is.

Class 700: Vegetables

CLASS 730: CULINARY ARTS

*Please note: entries will be available for pick up on Monday, September 18th, BUT W.A.S. highly recommends throwing out and not consuming any foods entered. Entries are handled by multiple people in the judging process and the W.A.S, will not be held liable for any illness that occurs from eating food that has been sitting out for multiple days.

RULES:

• Commercial food vendors are prohibited from exhibiting.
• Entries must be removed from baking pans. Cupcake and muffing papers must be removed.
• Baking to be placed on appropriate sized white disposable plates, aluminum disposable trays or foil covered cardboard.
• Place all items in appropriately sized ziploc bags with the entry tag secured to outside.
• No commercial mixes, fillings or frostings unless otherwise stated.
• Pie /tart shells are to be homemade.
• In case of a tie in the Specials, winner is the Exhibitor with the most 1st place finishes. Note: if you are a junior entering this class, DO NOT put your age on the entry tag.

OASS Butter Tart Competition Information

RULES: (no fruit, no nuts, no raisins, no pecans)

• Entry must be made solely by the person entering competition, including pastry.
• Competition is open to all exhibitors.
• Number of butter tarts to be shown at local Fair/Exhibition to be determined by each individual Fair/Exhibition.
• District/Provincial competition rules must be posted in the prize book of each local Fair/Exhibition. District Competition
• The entrant must have won the butter tart competition at the local Fair/Exhibition to be eligible to enter the district competition.
• The size of the tarts must be full size tarts.( no mini or bite size tarts)
• A total of 6 tarts will be required to be shown.
• Tarts must not contain fruit or nuts (ie: no raisins, no pecans).
• Tarts must be on a clean, sturdy plate (no paper plates) inside of a clear plastic bag with the Exhibitor’s name and address using the entry tag provided.
• Prize money to be paid by the district.

Provincial Competition:

• The entrant must have won the District Competition to be eligible to enter the Ontario Associations of Agricultural Societies Competition at the convention.
• In the case where the District winner is unable to sent an entry to the convention then the 2nd prize district winner will be eligible to enter.

• A total of 6 tarts will be required to be shown.

GLUTEN FREE PECAN PIE BARS

Crust:
1 cup butter + 2 tbsp.
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. Salt
3 cups “Bob’s Red Mill” gluten free 1-1 baking flour

Filling:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp. cream
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups pecan halves

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Line 9 X 9 “ pan with parchment paper.

For crust, beat butter, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add salt and flour. Mix well. Press dough into bottom of prepared pan and chill x 20 minutes. Bake in oven x 20 minutes. Cool completely.

Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees.

Combine butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and cream in saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil stirring constantly. Boil x 2 minutes, then remove from heat, Stir in salt, vanilla and pecans and pour over cooled crust. Bake at 325 degrees x 15-20 minutes until filling is bubbly and sides golden brown. Cool completely before cutting.

• Please note: All entries will be available to pick up on Monday, September 18, BUT the W.A.S. highly recommends throwing out and not consuming any foods entered. Entries are handled by multiple people in the judging process and the W.A.S. Will not be held liable for any illness that occurs from eating food that has been sitting out for multiple days.

RULES:

• Place baking on appropriate sized white disposable plated, aluminum disposable trays for foil covered cardboard.
• Place all items in appropriately sized ziploc bags with the entry tag attached securely to the outside.
• Put the baker’s age at the top of the entry tag so visible to the judge.
• In case of a tie in the Specials, winner is the Exhibitor with the most 1st place finishes.

OAAS Plain Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition Information (no nuts)

• Contest is open to youth up to the age 15 (as of December 31 of current year).
• One class only.
• Number of cookies to be shown at local Fair/Exhibition to be determined by each individual Fair/Exhibition.
• District/Provincial Competition Rules must be posted in the prize book of each local Fair/Exhibition.

District Competition

• The winner from each Fair/Exhibition will be eligible to enter at the District Competition.
• District entry must consist of 8 cookies displayed on a clean, sturdy plate (no paper plates) inside of a clear plastic bag with the exhibitor’s name and address using the entry tag provided.
• Plain chocolate chip cookies, with no nuts, must be no larger than 3” (6.75 cm) and no smaller than 2” (5 cm).

Provincial Competition

• The entrant must be the winner from the District Competition.
• In the case where the district winner is unable to send an entry to the convention, then the 2nd place winner will be eligible to enter.
• The entry for the District must consist of 8 cookies displayed on a clean, sturdy plate (no paper plates) inside a clear plastic bag with the exhibitor’s name, address and ‘District represented using the entry tag provided.
• Plain chocolate chip cookies, with no nuts are to be no larger than 3” 96.75 cm) and no smaller than 2” (5cm).

Provincial Prize Money-1st -$20, 2nd-$15, 3rd-$10 with 12 prizes of $5.

OATMEAL BREAKFAST BITES RECIPE

1 1/4 cups oatmeal (old fashioned)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. Salt

In a large bowl combine all ingredients together. Mixture should be evenly moistened. Make it your own by dividing mixture into 4 equal portions. To a portion add on of the following items:

2 tbsp. coconut
2 tbsp. chocolate chips
2 tbsp. chopped dried apples and 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. chopped dried cranberries
2 tbsp. raisins
2 tbsp. crushed banana chips Combine ingredients well. Place covered bowl in refrigerator x 10 minutes. Roll the mixture into 1 inch balls. Enjoy or store in a covered container in fridge.

ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKE RECIPE

18 flat bottom cones
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. Baking powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating till well mixed. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add 1/2 of the flour mixture into the egg mixture. Then add 1/2 of the milk. Repeat with remaining flour and then remainder of milk. Mix until combined.
Cover 9 X 13” pan with foil. Make little x’s in foil with knife and push empty ice cream cones in. Cones should be supported.
Fill cones 1/2 way with batter. Bake x 20 minutes or until cake bounces back. Decorated with icing, sprinkles etc.

CLASS 815: JR. FLOWERS

– accessories are allowed
– containers must be clean, the right size, unbroken, not tip over or leak
– all flowers should be in a container with water to keep them fresh for the weekend
– exhibits infected with pests or diseases will be disqualified
– make sure your age is written on the top of each entry tag

– No identification mark of any kind is permitted on the front of the photo photograph
– All photographs must be mounted with 2 sided tape on black Bristol board with a 1” inch border around all the edges (no glue or staples permitted)
– Photographs must be 4” x 6” inches in size
– Photographs can only be used once
– All Exhibitor tags must be in bottom right corner of Bristol board border
– Photographs must be MATTE finish with only basic photo editing alteration allowed
– Photographs that objectionable or offensive will not be allowed to compete or be displayed at the discretion of the judge
